special edition majolica by Francesco De Maio at the International exhibition

Gio Ponti. Loving Architecture

In the retrospective scheduled at the MAXXI in Rome from 27 November 2020,

Ceramica Francesco De Maio reissues "Via Dezza", the hand-decorated terracotta with white and yellow bands that paved the house of Gio Ponti

The exhibition, inaugurated on November 27, 2020, was organized on the occasion of the forty years since the death of the great Architect Gio Ponti. It was curated by Maristella Casciato and Fulvio Irace with Margherita Guccione, Salvatore Licitra and Francesca Zanella and was set up in gallery 5 of the National Museum of XXI Century Arts until September 2020. Made in collaboration with the C.S.A.C. of Parma and Gio Ponti Archives, the exhibition presents archival materials, models, photographs, books, magazines and objects ranging from everyday use to housing solutions to the realization of complex projects such as the Pirelli skyscraper in Milan or the Co-Cathedral of Taranto that allow you to discover an excellent protagonist of the Italian production of architecture, whose work has left important traces in different parts of the world.

On that eighth floor of the condominium in Via Dezza 49, Milan, Gio Ponti fully realized his artistic manifesto, his idea of his home, where he lived for more than twenty years, until his death.

A house made of experimentation and design, of space organization and of his unfailing love for geometric shapes. The same shapes, defined and clear, which are reproduced in the terracotta floor made and decorated by hand, with the evocative name "Via Dezza" by Ceramica Francesco De Maio.

“Special edition” majolica in 25x25cm, with hand-decorated diagonal bands in yellow and white. This immense expanse of color very dear to the Milanese artist, so much so that it was installed in his apartment in Via Dezza, is one of the main elements of the exhibition "Gio Ponti. Amare l'Architettura "scheduled at MAXXI in Rome.

Gio Ponti and the historic ceramics Francesco De Maio, official sponsor of the exhibition-retrospective on the artist, is a close bond.

Excellence and emblem of Italian creativity, Francesco De Maio is, in fact, world exclusivist for the faithful reproduction, with the same glazes, supports and colors, of the thirty-three hand-decorated white and blue majolica tiles that Gio Ponti designed for the Hotel Parco dei Principi di Sorrento between 1960 and 1962 in the sign of the continuity of the ceramic tradition between past, present and future and which in February 2017 were presented in the exhibition “Gio Ponti. The Blue Infinity "in the picture gallery of La Triennale di Milano.

‹‹We are proud to support this important Italian retrospective "Gio Ponti. Loving Architecture" at MAXXI in Rome - explains Patrizia Famiglietti, art director of Ceramica Francesco De Maio - and we are proud to have been chosen by the Ponti heirs to create the prestigious floor in Via Dezza, much loved by Gio Ponti. A floor of about 60sqm of terracotta tiles made and decorated by hand made in a special edition for the occasion, thus continuing this important ceramic research in collaboration with Gio Ponti Archives to make it ever more faithful to the only example of 1957 found by Salvatore and Anna Licitra and created at the time by the artist Fausto Melotti for Gio Ponti's house in Via Dezza, Milan››.
