The hand-decorated majolica of Ceramica Francesco De Maio on display at the MAD in Paris

In the international retrospective of the great architect, scheduled at MAD in Paris from 19 October 2018 to 5 May 2019, Ceramica Francesco De Maio reproduces some works by Gio Ponti with its hand-decorated majolica

By the cure of Olivier Gabet, Dominique Forest, Sophie Bouilhet-Dumas and Salvatore Licitra in collaboration with "Gio Ponti Archives", the retrospective retraces six decades the career of the great artist (1891-1979). In the path among the more relevant works of the great architect, with over 500 pieces from all over the world, it is possible to admire the design and creative genius of the master. It starts with architecture. A scale reproduction of the façade of Taranto Cathedral opens the scenographic labyrinth of the exhibition. It then continues along a path that goes from ceramics (the creations for Richard Ginori) to silverware (Christofle's historical pieces), from glass (by Venini ) to publishing (the most beautiful covers of Domus), to lamps (by Fontana Arte) to furniture (by Cassina and collaborations with Fornasetti) up to the long storyboard which, like a theatrical canvas, represents the film transposition project of the "Enrico IV" by Pirandello.

The long journey through the iconic works of Ponti Archi-designer ends with the six Room Histories. Six unique spaces. Each of which represents a decade where it is possible to visit the most evocative scenographies of Gio Ponti's creations: Ange Volant in the Parisian area, Montecatini building in Milan, Palazzo Bo - the University of Padua, Villa Planchart in Caracas, Gio Ponti's house in Via Dezza in Milan and Parco dei Principi Hotel in Sorrento.

Six great Period Rooms, two of which made possible thanks to Ceramica Francesco De Maio's precious collaboration, world exclusivist for the production and marketing of Blu Ponti decorations, which enriches this marvel with his ceramic masterpieces.

In particular, the Ceramica Francesco De Maio recreates the scenario of a room of Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento with the colours of the sky and the sea of the white and blue majolica tiles that Gio Ponti created between 1960 and 1962 to pave, with different combinations, the hall and the hundred rooms. And it does so with the Tipo 8 Decor from the "Blu Ponti" Collection. Strictly hand-decorated majolica, which faithfully reproduces the enamel, the colors, the decorations and the thickness of those made in the 60s and with the hand-made terracotta reproduction of the white and blue relief pebbles designed at the time by Ponti to cover the hotel lobby.

But not only. After long ceramic research, Ceramica Francesco De Maio has managed to faithfully reproduce the famous 25x25cm majolica in hand-made terracotta striped diagonally white and yellow that Gio Ponti designed in the 1950s to pave his house in Via Dezza in Milan which he lived with his loved ones from 1957 onwards, furnished with all the Pontian inventions in terms of plant, walls, furniture, objects.

"Faithfully reproducing these beautiful tiles has been a challenge for us to overcome with great pride and satisfaction. Just as it is an honour and an emotion to participate in the most extensive retrospective of Gio Ponti in the world ", say Gianni and Patrizia De Maio, respectively CEO and Art Director of Ceramica Francesco De Maio. "Two years of intense ceramic research and hard work carried out within the company together with Salvatore and Anna Licitra and in constant dialogue with the "exhibition's curators.

Tutto Ponti, Gio Ponti Archi – designer. An exhibition-tribute, the only one of its kind ever created on Gio Ponti's work, to testify the design and creative genius of the great master, from architecture to publishing, from ceramics to glass.
